Mobile App Launchpad

Mobile App Launchpad — Dream It. Code It. Launch It. Make Your Mark.

Turn your phone from a playground into your own creative studio at Mobile App Launchpad! This is the camp for students who don't just want to use technology they want to build it. From your first wireframe sketch to a live app that real users can download, this camp walks you through the entire professional app development pipeline using industry tools, AI-powered development assistants, and real-world launch strategies.

Whether you want to build the next viral game, a productivity tool, a social platform for a niche community, or something the world has never seen before  this camp gives you the coding skills, the design thinking, the marketing know-how, and the mentorship to make it real.

This year, Mobile App Launchpad introduces its most ambitious project yet: students collaborate to build a real, TTC-owned Business Mobile App that connects young entrepreneurs with real investors and launches live at our summer Networking Event.

💻 Build Real Apps — From Scratch to Launch

Students learn the full mobile app development workflow from day one. Starting with the fundamentals of coding for mobile platforms, students will progress through interface design, back-end logic, user testing, and final polish — building a working app step by step. No experience required. By the end of the 10 weeks, every student will have completed at least one personal app project and contributed to the signature group app.

Tools and platforms students will use:

  • MIT App Inventor (beginner-friendly visual coding for Android; no prior coding required)

  • Thunkable (cross-platform drag-and-drop app builder for Android and iOS)

  • Figma (industry-standard UI/UX design and prototyping tool)

  • AI coding assistants (to speed up development, troubleshoot bugs, and generate boilerplate code)

  • Canva (for app store graphics, screenshots, and promotional materials)

🎨 Design Like a Pro — UI/UX That Users Love

Great apps are not just functional — they are beautiful and intuitive. Students will learn the principles of User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) design: how to layout screens, choose color palettes, design navigation flows, create icons, and ensure that any user can open the app and know exactly what to do. Students will build and present clickable prototypes in Figma before writing a single line of code — the same process used at top tech companies.

🤖 AI-Powered Development

One of the biggest advantages today's young developers have over previous generations is access to AI tools. Students will learn how to use AI coding assistants to write and review code faster, auto-generate features, identify and fix bugs, and prototype ideas in a fraction of the time. This is not about letting AI do the work it is about learning to work with AI the way professional developers do.

📲 App Store Ready — Testing, Publishing & Compliance

Students will learn what it takes to get an app from "done" to "downloaded." This includes:

  • App testing and quality assurance (QA) — how to find and squash bugs before users do

  • Writing App Store and Google Play listings that get noticed (app title, description, screenshots, keywords)

  • Understanding app ratings, content guidelines, and target audience settings

  • Marketing your app — social media, YouTube trailers, influencer outreach, and launch strategy

  • Monetization models — free vs. paid, in-app purchases, subscriptions, and ad-supported models

(See the "About App Store Publishing" compliance section below for important age-related information.)

💰 App Business & Finance

Students learn the business side of app development:

  • How to calculate development costs and plan a launch budget

  • Pricing strategy for paid apps and in-app purchases

  • Reading basic revenue reports and understanding app store payout schedules

  • How successful indie developers monetize and grow their apps

  • Introduction to pitch decks how to present your app idea to investors

🤝 Collaborate & Innovate

Work alongside other creative campers, share feedback, and brainstorm features in an environment that mirrors how real development teams work. Students will have defined roles on the group project — developer, designer, marketer, project manager — rotating responsibilities to gain full-spectrum experience.

🏆 Demo Day & Business Grant Competition

Show off your finished app at our end-of-camp Demo Day showcase and get real feedback from peers, instructors, and invited mentors. Full/Half Summer Pro members are eligible to apply for TTC High-Yield Business Grants awarded at the Formal Awards Ceremony in August to the most innovative and well-executed student projects.

📱 Signature Class Group Project — Business Mobile App

Mobile App Launchpad students collaborate to build a first-of-its-kind Business Mobile App, a platform designed to help young entrepreneurs showcase their businesses, attract real investors, and make real sales. The app is owned by Tech Time Cincinnati Foundation, and all proceeds from the app support youth program scholarships and student marketing campaigns.

How the app works:

  • Student entrepreneurs create a profile and post their business — including a website link, video pitch, product photos, and real-time sales data

  • Investors and supporters download the app and create a verified profile

  • A free tier lets investors preview student businesses

  • A paid access tier ($9.99) unlocks full business profiles and the ability to bid on businesses or make donations to support a student

  • Students can choose to offer partnership stakes rather than full business sales

  • The app also features a networking section for students seeking business partners, co-founders, mentors, and nonprofit board members

The app also serves the Networking Event: Attendees download the app the night of the event to browse student businesses, place bids in real time, and donate to student entrepreneurs they believe in giving Mobile App Launchpad students a live, real-audience product launch experience.

Note: Participation in the Business Mobile App project is optional for individual students. Student accounts on the app require parental consent for users under 18. Investor accounts require identity verification. All financial proceeds from the app are managed by TTC and directed to youth scholarships and student marketing support.

⚖️ About App Store Publishing — IMPORTANT for Parents & Students

Tech Time Cincinnati is fully committed to legal compliance on all platforms. Here is what every Mobile App Launchpad family needs to know before camp:

Apple App Store Developer Accounts

Apple requires all paid Apple Developer Program enrollments (required to publish to the App Store) to be held by someone 18 years of age or older . Apple does allow a parent or guardian to create a developer account and publish apps on behalf of a minor, with the minor using the parent's Apple ID under supervision .

What this means for camp:

  • ✅ During camp: Students develop and test their apps using free Apple developer accounts linked to TTC's developer profile. Apps can be installed directly on test devices without App Store submission.

  • ✅ Publishing (take-home parent project): For students who want their app live on the App Store, a parent creates a free Apple Developer account and handles the submission. TTC provides a step-by-step parent publishing guide. The student's name and app appear in the listing.

  • ✅ Students 18 and older can create and manage their own Apple Developer account and submit apps independently in class.

Google Play Developer Accounts

Google Play requires all developer accounts to be held by someone at least 18 years old . Parents can create a developer account and publish on behalf of their minor student.

What this means for camp:

  • ✅ Same approach as Apple — TTC handles in-camp testing via TTC's development environment

  • ✅ Parents publish via their own Google Play developer account (one-time $25 registration fee)

  • ✅ TTC provides a parent guide covering the full Google Play submission process

  • ✅ Students 18 and older can create their own Google Play account and submit independently

New 2026 App Store Accountability Laws

Starting in 2026, several states have passed App Store Accountability Acts requiring app developers to implement age verification and parental consent systems for any app with users under 18 . These laws apply to the TTC Business Mobile App since it is a real, published app with users that may include minors. TTC will implement the required parental consent flow for student accounts on the Business Mobile App to ensure full compliance .
